Guetta : Beyonce's Worst Nightmare

These days, Beyonce has a lot of worrying to do.
She's still as big as her booty. ( Her ambition for world domination is even bigger)

Well, out-singing and out-dancing every girl on the planet got her the best of the first decade of this millenium.

So who would have thought that at the turn of 2010,
she sees her reign on shaky ground, not from another starlet ( although she does need to worry over a certain strange lady alien called Gaga.) , but from a DJ-cum-producer David Guetta.
A scruffy beach-surfer-like-dude who happens to spin records quite rather well.

Before fans and folks alike start to scream "WTF?! Who's That Chick?"

Let me clear the air for those who love music but are still on another planet ( probably the same one that Gaga came from) .

The DJ-of-The-moment : David Guetta

David Guetta is single handedly responsible for producing and mixing for Kelly Rowland, that poor girl from Destiny's Child who couldn't grow up and out of Miss B's shadows.

Until , of course, Guetta's Love Took Over and became her new Commander.

Now , we all know the other chart-topping chocolate-beauty that is Rihanna. She who brought her island-sound and made it 'Ella' hot. Setting the dance floors all over on fire with that robotic voice.

She was already ballooning before Guetta.

But a swtich from coconut-sweet to Coco Chanel-edgy and collaborating with Guetta not only extended her 5-minutes-of-fame ( let's be honest here, she ain't exactly the bext singer around even if she looks like Dionne Warwick or Whitney Houston) but allowed her to not just breathe down Miss B's neck over the last few years, but to literally surge pass her to trample all over with more #1-hits. (9 to be exact. Tying her with Janet Jackson and only behind Whitney ,Madonna and Mariah.)

Indeed, Guetta had made her The Only Girl in the world right now to triumph Beyonce. ( Gaga and Xtina A still have some way to go and Janet ought to be panicking that she ain't really 'The Best' while Whitney and Madonna should start to worry next and Mariah getting bored and lonely way up at the top, still.)

Kelly is readying her ammunition while Rihanna is red-hot.
Thanks to Guetta.

Yes Sasha, you ought to be saying out-loud now ' I Am ..... Scared."

Queens of Qristmas

When Mariah launched her original christmas CD ( any chanteuse worth her voice would have at least one ) , her 'All I want for Christmas is You' song went on to become the single most successful holiday song in history.

It's a feat no one can top. But herself.

Years later, she's recreated her christmas album with brand new material, similar cover and another big christmas hit. Way to go Mariah.

Everyone thought her's was a shoo-on to be this years biggest Christmas album so who would think dowdy Susan Boyle would have yet another hat trick and score a consecutive hit record with 'The Gift.'

Surely , these two are this year's biggest Christmas divas.

On a hind-note, Whitney Houston's 'One Wish' album is worh mentioning.

It came at a time, her hoopla was bigger than her vocal hoops.

But really, this album, is really good and could well be that one wish you were waiting for all holiday season. Grab one and fall in love with Whitney all over again.

Enuff with the Walk-outs.

She sings for the Lovers. For the Love.
" To all you haters... I ain't singin to you . It's about the Lovers. Leave the stress at home. Tell the drama 'no'. You ain't gonna kill my vibe. This song is about You."

She sings with such eloquence in her opening up-tempo song from her #1 Debut album 'I Look to You' , at the start of her world tour which opened Down Under .

Yes, there are the nasty reviews circulating out there right now about her purportedly mediocre 'breathless' performance and all the drama about audience-walkouts and wanting refunds.

Give her a break ok?

She's not done this for years and is starting an exhausting world tour. She's not hyper 16 'Miley Cyrus' you know?

Too all the nasty critiques out there, here's my 2-cents worth: If you're so good, people would have been paying to see YOU.

But you're nothing more than the hundreds of millions who've seen HER.

So stop the ego-fuelled 'I've got standards' walk-outs you've done to Britney and Whitney.

It's not as if Kylie would do any better dance or song , that clearly, both of which are better at .

Period.

Q ....If you've bought tickets just to be there and hope to see a train wreck, and have something to spill on your own disgruntled life with that "I should be famous too " thought , there are much better ways to spend your money. Like watching the kangaroos watch you and thinking 'Ewww, what's this toad of a human doing in our beautiful wilderness, and quickly hop off.

Genie out of The Bottle

Miss Polizzi looking bootylicious

The Grammy Awards, once again ,came and went.

The usual controversies (other than the bitching of fashionista watch-dogs) such as the seemingly undeserving winners ( a certain Diva-Hustler got a bus loads of Grammies again) and incessant rumours of bribes and favours abound. (Payment in Millions or in Kind, perhaps?^^)

Nothing, however , is as controversial as having Snooki around, of course. Star of hit reality show, Jersey Shore.

Not since Britney Spears, Whitney Houston, Rihanna ,Amy Winehouse, Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan, had there been another celebrity with quite as many 'Scuttlebacks' in the fodders of tabloids.

But of course,
'Scuttlebacks are good!'
according to Wendy Williams.

Anyway, back to the gist of this entry, observers thronging the red carpet that evening had to do a double-take for , although, Beyonce, Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift were the darlings of the night, Christina Aguilera was also there? Eh?

Q .... Surely Miss Polizzi is pleasing the fashion police.

P.S: I think it is very nice that there are days she wants to 'be tall' and pile it up high with 7-inch plantform heels and her signature 'high-poof' hair and then there are days like these where she's just letting loose, be edgy and have a good time and be totally secure about not being a 5'10 monster girl in NY and LA . Fabulous.

Will Tranny Banks be the New First Lady?

-She's Almost 6 feet tall.

-Big lush weaves and wigs.

-Thick dramatic eyemake up

-Huge boobies.

-Platform-heels.

-Leopard prints and cocktail dresses.

-Retro-disco studio set.

-Celebrity gossip, interviews, dissing and socialite-banter.

-Loud and bashful personality.

-Camp and drag-queen fabulous.

Yes, that's Wendy Williams for you .

And she's set to become the next big African-American talkshow hostess with burgeoning ratings since her show started in 2008.

And now that her main rivals, Tyra and Oprah are set to pull out from the scene in 2010 and 2011, respectively, and the latest news being Wendy's show is set to roll on till 2012 at least, she is here to stay and continue to bring saucy daytime talk show juice into our living rooms.

Yes, she does have her detractors calling her 'fake' ('switches' things up according to Omarosa), 'tranny' (many love to diss) and 'plastic' (more than just botox we suspect? Ahem! Breast implants? Rhinoplasty? Lipo?)

But this girl is anything but boring and that's that. (If I wanted boring stuff, I'd switch to Rachel Ray or something.)

She is not merely a 'face' producers put out there for the TV ( to compete with Tyra, we suppose?) ; for she does have her credentials like a university education, is a famous radio DJ, a best-selling author, has a long and successful marriage and mother of 1.)

So, she's certainly 'been there done that ' (she claims to have had been a drug addict for 10 years previously)and has had a successful life balancing all aspects of her life and still looking fab at a grand dame age of 45.

So there you have it.

Never mind her famous run-ins with Whitney Houston and Omarosa; she still has the goods.

All Wendy needs now is an Emmy-win or two , to seal the deal.

Q ... I need my new fix , you see?

The Next Best Superstar

As 2010 looms ahead and signal that we're soon to exit the first decade of the new millennium, looking back at how the industry had evolved into an unpredictable, volatile and insanely competitive environment where marketing hype and packaging almost outshines talent, we look ahead and wonder who's gonna make it or break it in the NEXT decade.

The Top 5 Music artistes to look out for in the Next Decade.

1) Whitney Houston: After a 7-year absence, she’s back on top. What’s next on her cards to prove to the newer generation on what talent and diva-licious really mean and what does she still have in her?

2) Lady Gaga: She’s edgy and ground breaking in both her style and music and it’s to no one’s surprise that she’s likely the biggest star on the charts for the next decade. Or will she? Is she fucking crazy? Or fucking fabulous?

3) Shakira: How will the world be even more convinced of this multi-talented chanteuse?

4) Madonna: She’s celebrated her reign as Queen of Pop longer than anyone, what’s the next decade gonna be like for the Mother of Reinvention now that she’s left Warner Music, the very label that made her?

5) Susan Boyle: She’s the single biggest story of rags to riches, talent above all else. Her massive album sales says it all. Perhaps she’ll lead the way for a new generation with a genuine appreciation for talent, rather than looks and packaging?

Over-stayers Alert:

Britney, Rihanna, Beyonce and Mariah will still be around, though the fatigue the public has of them is getting as obvious as their shrinking creative space.

On that note, will Mariah finally bulldoze her way pass Elvis and The Beatles as the artiste with the most #1-hits on the Bill Board charts, given her sleepy release of her recent ‘Memoirs’ album which is indeed imperfect?

What’s next for these?

>What’s next for Janet who’s just launched her penultimate greatest hits and who now remains the only viable member of the Jackson clan on the charts?

When in fact, her recent songs are not making the waves like they used to simply because she cannot sing like Whitney or Mariah, not is as media savvy as Madonna nor deemed as hot as Britney and Beyonce?

>Will Lil Kim continue to reign as the Queen of Female Rap music? Is she making a comeback anytime?

>Will Kelly Clarkson remain the Queen of Idols?

>Will Alicia Keys and Leona Lewis indeed become the new ‘Whitneys’ for Clive Davis?

>Will Norah Jones continue to lead the way for the new generation of female Jazz vocalists?

>Will The Wonder Girls truly break into the International market next year? Or will they just be a one-hit wonder?

>Will Nicole Scherzinger finally get her (successful) solo break from The Pussy Cat Dolls?

>How will Vanessa Mae continue to redefine classical-pop music like she had for the most part of the last 2 decades?

>Will Ciara’s music career sink further into the abyss in the next decade?

>How will Jordin Sparks, Alessandra Burke and Keri Hilson define themselves more distinctly to finally earn the recognition they deserve?

> Will The Spice Girls make another comeback?

Q ... the stars are shining bright. Read the Signs.

Top 3 Albums of 2009

This is the final week of dreaded 2009.

The music got better and more manic than ever.

And the battle for chart dominance was never this intense and strenuous on both the artistes and their fans.

Well, as the year finally closes with such crecendo, let me state my 2 cents worth of this year's Top 3 Biggest Albums of 2009.

Holler vulgarities at me if you want :-)

At#1 : Whitney Houston 's 'I Look To you ' . Not surprisingly, it really did Debut at #1 on the Bill Board Charts. Classy and timeless and very well produced. Every song is single-worthy. No one sings like she does. Period.

At #2 : Lady Gaga 's 'The Fame Monster'; formaliac and precise. Another round of song-chart dominance for sure.

At#2 (it's a tie!): Shakira's 'She-Wolf' is sexy, thumping hot and very well produced. Her multi-talents, as usual shines through unmistakably. This girl should not be big. She should be Huge.

At #3: Susan Boyles's 'I Dreamed A Dream'; this here is pure inspiration , where talent and sheer will to succeed brought her here. Memorable.

There , if you're still scrambling to get fresh music before the year closes, these 4are must-gets and you can pretty much give Michael Jackson, a final rest-in-peace.

Q ... for god's sakes!

The Queens of the Charts

It is the time of the year again where the last crop of big music artists launch their albums in a bid to have a slice of the eagerly buying Christmas/ Year-end crowd.

Where songstresses are concerned, the fickle and bitchy music world is their playground as they pout, pose and belt to their loyal subject of fans.

Launching rocking singles, glossy videos and snooping the competition with massive publicity stunts, collabos and other strategic moves all in the name of fame; who ranks higher up the charts and is snitching more of the consumer's money (yes, these days its all about the sex and the money isn't it?) is their modus operandi.

So here is a rather comprehensive list of the Big Mamas of today's music charts.

If she ain't on it, she ain't hot.

Listed, though not in any order or merit, with their most recent efforts:

1) Whitney Houston (I Look to you)*
2) Beyonce (I am Sasha Fierce)*
3) Mariah Carey (Memoirs of an Imperfect Angel)
4) Madonna (Celebration)*
5) Lady Gaga (The Fame Monster)*
6) Britney Spears (Circus & The Singles Collection)*
7) Christina Aguilera (Keeps Getting Better)
8) Rihanna (Rated R)*
9) Ciara(Fantasy Ride)
10) Leona Lewis (Best Kept Secret & Echo)*
11) Shakira (She-Wolf)*
12) Janet Jackson (Number Ones)
13) Alicia Keys (As I am)
14) Norah Jones (The Fall)
15) Jordin Sparks (Battlefield)
16) Fergie ( The End ; with The Black Eyed Peas)
17) Nicole Scherzinger ( Doll Domination ; with The Pussy Cat Dolls)*

(Those with * are particularly splendid this year)

And please, no Miss Miley ok?

And certainly, not Michael Jackson, Elton John or Adam Lambert.

I know I could be lambasted by loyal fans for those Divaaaaasss who didn't make it in. Sorry and ... may not.

Biggest Chart Debut album of 2009

Whitney Houston's latest album, 'I Look To You' debuted at #1 on the Billboard album charts and became 2009's biggest chart-debut album with over 400,000 albums sold in the opening week alone.

Just over a month later, Michael Jackson's posthumous soundtrack album release, 'This Is It' debut at #1 this week and beat Whitney's as the year's biggest selling chart debut album, by (just) a couple of thousand copies.

Although, it's worth mentioning that :

1) Whitney's album 'I Look To You' is still the biggest album chart debut this year for a female artiste and is already guaranteed to be one of this year's biggest selling albums by both a female singer and overall.
This album is critically aclaimed and is already slated for a Grammy nod and will likely continue to sell strongly for months and even years to come.

2) Michael's soundtrack album is essentially a greatest hits mixed into a 'live' setting as heard in the movie. It is obbviously banking on the late singer's hype over his sudden death and his upcoming biopic movie. It's not an album with material we haven't already heard, like, ten thousand times in the past in various formats. So , indeed, it rides only on the hype that will soon wear thin.

Interestingly,

1) Whitney will be replacing Mike for his string of concert-venue dates at O2 Arena, London which he was preparing for before his untimely demise.

2) Whitney's 'The Bodyguard' album is also the 2nd biggest selling album of all time , at 43 million copies and still going strong , after Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' album which sold 45 million copies but is as Halloween-dead as the singer himself.

'This is It' is unlikely to sell anywhere close to 'The Bodyguard' anyway, so it's discussion closed.

So, the battle rages on between The (late) King of Pop and The (comeback) Queen of the Night.

Battle of the Divas

It's been 4eva since I posted anything here.

So lets restart with a Bang.^^)

This month is the Battle of the Divas,I tell ya.

Vanessa Williams, the beauty who was the first Black to Win Miss America, finally has new material after all these years of silence and Ugly Betty.

Her 'The Real Thing' got critical acclaim and is doing well.

Louder and bigger (of course) is Whitney Houston .

Whitney launched her much anticipated comeack album , 'I Look To You' to much fan fare 2 weeks ago.

Well, it making a #1 debut on the Album charts on the Billboard Hot 100 and world wide as a matter of fact , proves, she's back !

And the world's accepting.

With big songs like the title track , the very intimate 'I Look to you' , the catchy 'Million Dollar Bill', the touching 'I Didn't Know my Own Stength' amongst others, (with my personal favourite 'Worth It' ) , it's easy to see how Whitney has traded lung power (still loads of it btw) for somthing more urban and connecting.

Brilliant. Surely one of the best albums and Grammy shoo-ins this year.
Madonna, on the other hand , just launched her third Greatest Hits collection, after her title track, the very nice (and me thinks is indeed one of her best songs thus far, up there with 'Hung Up' and 'Music') , 'Celebration'.

A very well-packaged album with posters and double Cds of her biggest hits from her long career (very heavy, yes) .

A much-needed reprieve from the ho hum Hard Candy.

Just like what 'GHV2' had to do with the damage caused by 'American Life', a couple of years back.

Well, this time, I can safely report that 'Celebration' is a much better album than even 'GHV2'. So, indeed, take heart. Maddie learnt her lessons (just).

Well , Beyonce on the other hand, just had her much banging performance at Singapore's F1 Night Race which the whole world was bound to have been watching.

And it also coincides with her launch of The Platinum edition for the recent Sasha album.

What next? Diamond Ed? This girl is manic, I tell ya.

I would have to say , well, Nippy and Maddie's albums are just a stamp to show who's the real deal amoungst a sea of Beyonces, Britneys, Rihannas and GaGas we have today

Well done!

Whitney , especially, she's in control and knows that a good effort is a Precise and concise effort.

The Wait is over.

Queen of the Night to take over King of Pop

Whitney Houston is set to take over Michael Jackson's London shows.

The the multi platinum best selling artist has a new record due out this year, and is being lined up for 23 of the dates the 'King of Pop' - who died of a suspected cardiac arrest on June 25 - was due to perform at The O2 arena early next year.

'Whitney Houston has been on the O2 arena wish-list for a while - she has the voice and hits to sell the arena out several times over.'

Michael had been scheduled to play 50 dates at the venue starting earlier this month and stretching into next year.

If the plan goes ahead, Whitney, could stage shows in January, February and March 2010.

She is expected to play greatest hits sets as well as her new material.

Whitney's 'I Look to You' comes out in August, and is her first new studio LP in the last few years.

Q .... It's only right and fitting since Whitney's album 'The Bodyguard' is the world's 2nd biggest selling album after Michael's 'Thriller'.

Happy 4th July !!!

Happy 4 July !!!!!!

No one sings the Star Spangled Banner better than Whitney Houston ...

After all, it is the only version ever to make it up all the way to the Top 5 of the American Billboard Hot 100 charts, and making it the one and only song ever written in the 18th century to chart.

Not to mention, having sold over 4 million copies , it is one of the Top 3 biggest selling singles of all time.

(Just FYI: The Second-Biggest selling single of all time 'I Will Always Love You' was also song by Ms. Houston and first being that most-annoying 'Candle In the Wind' by Queen Elton John)

Befitting achievements as mountainous as her souring vocals in the song. Amazing.

Can't wait for her new come-back album out this year.^^)

Comeback Queen of the Night

Move over Britney, Whitney Houston is ready to take the title of comeback queen.

And David Foster, the legendary hit-maker for stars ranging from Barbra Streisand and Celine Dion to Madonna and Michael Jackson, is finally talking about his reunion with the superstar.

Foster collaborated with Houston on the blockbuster soundtrack single "I Will Always Love You." He knows fans are wondering if she's ready to resume her hugely successful career after years battling her personal demons.

Q: You and Whitney are finally together again. How is she doing?

David Foster: I was in the studio with her last week. She's in great shape and she looks good. We have this fantastic song that Diane Warren wrote and we went in and recorded it. It went really well. Her work ethic was exactly the way it was when we did the song for The Bodyguard. She worked incredibly hard for two nights and we came up with something really good.

Q: Whitney has been through some tough times. Do you think she has her life and career back on track?

DF: I think she's going to have a great album out within the year. Whitney is a girl that everybody would like to see come back and, in this case, it really would be a comeback. A lot of people say, 'Come back? I never left.' But Whitney did leave and she hasn't recorded in about 10 years, I believe. So this truly would be a comeback.

Songwriter Diane Warren had something to say about the the song she wrote for Houston.

Q: What's the song about, Diane?

Diane Warren: I don't usually write music with someone in mind. But I set out to write this song specifically for Whitney and it's called "I Didn't Know My Own Strength." It definitely touches on her life, but I think a lot of people will relate to it because they've gone through hard times too.

Q: How was her performance?

DW: I was praying that Whitney was going to be able to nail it and she exceeded my expectations. She sang the s*** out of that song. Seriously, it was amazing. I'll tell you something, Whitney is back. Let there be no doubt.

Wannabe Whitney

She looks like her. God-damn looks like her!

And is even dating her own Mr. Brown and suffering , apparently, the same trashing-behind-closed-doors.

Now,
she wants to do what made Whitney the timeless superstar that she came to be.

Yes, Rihanna is to star in a remake of 'The Bodyguard'.

Or so says reports.

The 21-year-old pop star - whose boyfriend Chris Brown has been charged with felony assault and making criminal threats following his alleged assault on her - has reportedly been looking at various scripts in New York, including a remake of the hit 90s film which starred Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner.

A source told the New York Daily News newspaper: 'Before the situation with Chris, Rihanna was getting a lot of scripts. She has been wanting to do movies for a while now.'

If the film goes ahead, Rihanna's character will be a 'young and sexy take' on the popstar previously played by Whitney.

The Barbados-born beauty will star alongside 'GI Joe' actor Channing Tatum who will play her on-screen love interest.
~MSN News

Rihanna, seriously, as much as I am a huge fan of your dance-hall R&B-pop brandished with your signature reggae-fied vocoder vocals, you real-life Ananova you, whether you looking like Whitney's long lost younger sister or not, does not give your any veto-right to go all out to seal that deal.

C'mon, a Bodyguard sequel minus the signature voice-on-fire of Miss Houston, just don't cut it.

Image can only go that far , Miss Barbados.

Q ...Really.

Same Script Different Cast

Dear Mr. Brown...

Both women, successful, famous and rich beyond dreams. Yet one thing plagued them.

Whitney Houston has had a most illustrious music career with her slew of #1 hits (11, mind you), multiple awards won (a Guiness Book of record entry no less) and millions of records sold (almost 180 million albums, to be exact).

But when she married Bobby Brown, her personal and professional life took a dip.

She was a battered wife.

Look at Rihanna, today, the pop star whose career is upsurging with her own slew of hits and big selling records and whose image emulates Miss Houston , right down to the short cropped hair, the mega watt smile and androgyny and to a penchant of leather-and-fur wear, has her own domestic issues with another Mr. Brown, Chris Brown.

Both Mr. Browns are years younger then the 2 women, too.

The similarities are astounding.
And while the comparisions are flattering to Miss Barbados and rendering Miss Houston , relatable, it is also but a sad and embarassing parallel of seeing History repeat itself.

Rihanna, take a hard look yourself and think well.
It took Whitney 14 years to get out of the rut.

Q... it recalls Whitney's 2000 R&B hit song 'Same Script Different Cast' .

Put a Ring on It.

Durex

Talking about supermodels putting a ring on it ( if you're in the fashion/ modelling business, you'd know how big a deal it is to have Gisele and Adriana tying the knot; and almost at the same time no less), let's face it , celebrity marriages simply don't last.

The scrutiny of the hungry public, the temptation of constantly being surrounded by beautiful people and an ambitious schedule, just all speck of the Big D word.

I totally agree with Whitney Houston's #1 hit 'Where do Broken Hearts Go?'. When somebody loves you , won't they always love you? Yes, they Will Always Love You ; yet another #1 hit of former Mrs Brown. You see, 14 years of marriage with Bobby Brown still didn't work even with pills and stuff.

What I'm sayin is, love is not enough. The craving for each other is a result of Lust.

So the bigger question is,
'How Long Lusts Love?'

So , forget the diamond ring, the diamond will last forever but only good sexual chemistry keep a marriage lasting twice as long .Slip on this ring instead.

The Diva is a Female version of a Hustler

A stunning-looking and strong-sounding Whitney Houston made a triumphant return to the stage at a pre-Grammy party honoring her mentor, music mogul Clive Davis.

"I've got it, I've got it!" Houston, looking glamorous in a skintight leopard dress, sang early Sunday morning as she belted a line from one of her classic hits, "I'm Every Woman." But more than a lyric, it summarized to the crowd of A-list superstars and top industry execs that the superstar _ whose drug use and erratic behavior had caused a shocking fall from grace just a few years ago _ was back in top form.

A smiling Houston performed Jennifer Hudson's hit "Spotlight," which earned her one of her four Grammy nominations, and got a standing ovation from the crowd.

But she raised the bar with a pairing with Barry Manilow, injecting one of his signature songs, "Weekend in New England," with a lacking ingredient _ soul.

Afterward, the Oscar-winner joined the audience (and friend Fantasia), stood in the front and danced and sang as Houston performed. Houston started off with "I Will Always Love You," but didn't hit the high, sustaining notes that made the song such a dramatic, stirring hit. Instead, she kept her voice at medium power, deciding to croon rather than soar.

But as she got into hits like "It's Not Right, But It's O.K.," her voice appeared to get stronger _ and louder, and while she never replicated the vocal gymnastics of some of her past work, delivered a mesmerizing performance nonetheless.

The 45-year-old, one of the best-selling artists of all time and among the greatest singers, hasn't made an album since 2002. Then she was was sinking due to drug use and a tumultuous personal life _ a far cry from the princess image she cultivated since her debut in the 1980s.

But the singer is expected to release an album sometime this year, and unlike other reported returns, this comeback seems to be the real deal.

"She was on it, she was happy _ she's back,"
said Foxx. "Everybody else watch out."
