While rushing to complete yet another assignment, I got to watch the movie
'The Assassination of Richard Nixon' on late night television .
Yeah... again.. no life. LOX
The story line is not literally about some president-assassination attempt.
The lead character is a tormented soul played by critically acclaimed actor, Sean Penn.
It's about a man who's dying to make it big in the business world and make lots of bucks. And throughout the entire show, he's constantly brainwashed by clips of Richard Nixon on the news 'selling' his agenda to the American public just to keep his place as President on two consecutive terms in the Office.
It tells of how much it takes to be in the game of deception to stay ahead and remain a winner.
From then on, being an office-furniture sales man, he was constantly the 'best' performer in terms of sales but his idealistic tendencies got the better of him. He simply wasn't comfortable in being 'ruthless' and 'to lie'.
His problems at work soon foils his family life and marriage.
He was eager to make it on his own, so that he could run a 'good and honest ' business; just the way he would like it to be.
However, after submitting his business plan to the authorities and banks for approval, he waited and waited... and waited.
In the process, his world got darker and more tormented. He felt the system was against him. He had his goals and dreams but everything was there, it seemed, to prevent him from achieving his goals.
When 10 weeks finally came about, it was only bad news that was there to receive him.
He went suicidal and homicidal.
Finally, he character failed in his suicide-hijack attempt on a passneger plane and was killed.
I feel so much for his character.
We go about life with hopes and dreams, wanting to achieve so badly. We plan and stategise and do whatever we can to realise that dream.
But you come to realise, it's not you that is not working hard enough or not putting in all that is necessary.
It's a case of somebody else, or there could exist a system or an unspoken rule somewhere that prevents you from achieving those big dreams.
You pound with frustration and hopelessness... and you wait and wait and wait for a response . To no avail.
Literally, a sense that your destiny lies in the hands of others and you could do nothing about it .
Very relatable indeed. ::::
