On the hype and media frenzy :
"On the day the car was unveiled, there must have been a bank of 100 television cameras, all madly pushing and cramming and shoving to get the first pictures."
Looking back into the annals of Motor History there were the pinnacles that forever changed the face of Car ownership.
Henry Ford's Model-T. Adolf Hitler's VW Bettle. And Sir Alec Issigonis' Mini.
And then there is this.
The Millennium's next generation People's car.
The kind of car you wouldn't mind owning. So do millions of others who think likewise.
It's Cute. It's Chic. It's spacious for it's size. It's Economical. It's dirt cheap.
In fact, get this, it cost just US$2,500.
What more can an Urbanite that has to struggle with high oil prices, even higher ownership costs and tight city spaces ask for? And public transport is so passe? (Those Manolo Blahniks aren't good for Walkathons, you see. It hurts the back some and the Bank balance even more)
Will a fashionista/o want one? Will they be ridiculed? Not likely. Styling wise, it strikes a good balance between sportiness and cherburic cuteness, form and function. A cross between the stylings of two premium hatches does help indeed.
