Guinean Supermodel Katoucha Niane was drowned-murdered and thrown into the Seine river, 2 February 2008, her body found afloat nearly a full month later.
Somalian Supermodel Waris Dirie, was kidnapped (and also apparently rapped) on 5 March 2008, and found 4 days later, lost , confused and alone in Brussels.
Female genital cutting (FGC), also known as female genital mutilation (FGM) or female circumcision, refers to "all procedures involving partial or total removal of the external female genitalia or other injury to the female genital organs whether for cultural, religious or other non-therapeutic reasons."
Not quite like Male Circumcision.
Millions of girls bleed to death or die of terrible infections because of dodgy procedures without proper medical attention.
Those who survive cannot have sexual intercourse ever again with horrendous bleeding. And have to be sewn up every time they give birth and are constantly at risk of infection.
Done with out anaesthesia, the survivors are scarred psychologically for life.
Even Supermodels aren't spared from such senseless traditions that is still happening today in many African and/or Muslim countries.
Awareness of such outdated and cruel practices is still lacking despite high profile campaigning from the likes of Katoucha and Waris.
Let not more innocent lives be lost or destroyed.
Be AWARE. Give your SUPPORT. SPEAK OUT AGAINST IT.

Many heart-felt condolences to the family of the late Katoucha.
She was a beautiful woman who faced the world with a purpose.
Will always be remembered by fashionistas world-wide.

That's so horrible - and even worse, supermodels are at risk!
I hope and pray that Africans (and everyone worldwide) help to stop such injustice... or at least those poor souls do well!!
Great post!
