The lastest general of Victoria's Secret Angels have some way to go before they match the trailblazers of yesteryears like Tyra, Heidi, Gisele, Adriana and Karolina. But finally, this new supermodel is really something.

There were the Alexandria Ambrosio, Marisa Miller , Miranda Kerr , Doutzen .

Then there is her, South African, Candice Swanepoel.

Wow.

Eveyone thought it was a mad cap move to leave Victoria's Secret and expect happily ever after away from fashion heaven. (Not everyone's Tyra. And ther jury is still out on Heidi) .

But yet again, Marisa proved why she was called 'The Return of the Great American Supermodel.'.

As if being spotted by world famous photographer Mario Testino ( the other girl ever spotted by him was Kate Moss, getit?) , her record 7 consecutive appearances on Sports Illustrated, her being the only model ever to top both FHM and Maxim's list of 'Hottest women' , her (now former) big contract with Victoria's Secret and the honour of wearing the Fantasy Angel bra weren't news enough, she's in the record books again for her upcoming appearance on the cover of the February issue of Shape magazine.

This makes it her 8th cover, the most for any model in the 30-year history of the magazine.

Looks like there is life after decending from fashion heaven.

Mom's Naked

Heidi Klum says being naked in front of her family is 'not a big deal'.

She reveals ,

"...has no problem showing off her fabulous figure in front of her husband Seal and the three children they raise together. ... the children see you naked or in lingerie all the time so it's not a big deal for us."

Heidi also revealed she not only has to maintain her slimline figure for work, but also to keep the romance alive in her marriage.

She said, "I don't want to be a slouch bag, I have to keep up appearances."

Dear Heidi, for your hussy, we can understand.

But to walk around with your fanny fan-fair for your kids?!

'Less it's some dirty men pretending to be your kids.

What kind of 'appearance' does she envision for her kids' eyes, anyway?

Any one who's ever dabbled in modelling before and who isn't caucasian ( note, I am not here to start a racial backlash or anything ok? C'mon! Mr O is Mr President now ya know?) , will know that the fashion industry has a general bias towards the Arian faces and pretty much leave out cold the black/ethnic looks.

So it's little wonder that some of the new black-and-beautiful models out there are , even with 'all the potential in the world' (quoting Tyra), still need a leg-up .

Well, the best way to attempt being the next Iman, Naomi Campbell and Tyra Banks is to at least start by having names that sound like theirs.

Their name-sakes are so glaringly emulative that I need no even bother mentioning who their childhood heros were.

My new favourite model-of-the-moment. But is Ebanks the next Banks?


She became the second black model in history to become a Victoria's Secret Angel.

She had the arduous task of filling the big stilettos of uber Supermodel Tyra Banks.

Few believed she could.

But since then, she's been going from strength to strength.

She was in the headlines for being the first fiancee of, the now-husband-to Mariah Carey, Nick Canon. (a.k.a A**hole playeur)

She went on to become the Angel selected to wear the crown jewel of the annual Victoria's Secret fashion show , the annual Fantasy Angel Bra , which is made of millions of diamonds and costs even more. (Above; in the 2008 show)

She's become more stunning than ever . And even though there's still a long way to go before she's really the next Tyra Banks (that waits to be seen) ,

she's definitely one of the most high profile black Supermodels of the NEXT generation.

Yes, there are the new black models like Chanel Iman, Niomie Lenoir and the likes out there.

But few have come along and matched the media-darling hype that the Naomi Campbells, Tyra Banks, Oluchis, Alek Weks and Wasames of yore could achieve.

One of the most famous couples in the world debuted their smouldering duet 'Wedding Day' on Seal's latest album 'System', at the 2007 Victoria's Secret Show.

The duet's a gem.

Not the all-hyped-up shake ya booty 'biggest-duet-there-ever-was' or a 'we're singing about love but we're really talking dirty here' or 'we really really are mushing to hell about the big L-O-V-E' type of ditty.

But a cool, new-agey , laid-back sophistication that wafts along a tremendously well-written, well-arranged song that reflects a true sense of their chemistry, relief and happiness together.

No romping or flirting. Only a gentle sense of caressment and eye-to-eye.

As beautiful as the Angel's it serenaded that night.

Miss Mariah married her Ex barely 6 months

after she was nearly Mrs Cannon herself, Supermodel Selita Ebanks (a.k.a Tyra Bank's replacement Victoria's Secret Angel).

An expensive Thong. But so what?
Costing around S$200k dollars to make, this model wore that thong and nothing else.

She's topless because there's no apparent matching bra to go along with it.

Totally pointless right?

And so are the two poor male models pretending to prove to the world that female models are light. (They are not, btw. They are 'normal'.)

All three look constipated and weird.

(And probably, most of the time, you'd be staring that the two fellas and their perfect pecs and half wondering why's the gal sitting there anyway?)

Haven't they learnt a thing or two from the likes of Tyra Banks or Gisele Bundchen when they were wearing the multi-million dollar Fantasy Angel Bras on stage? You gotta walk-the-walk and flaunt.

On a more successful note, Sex-Y In The City, the underwear show that lighted The Tent on flames for this year's SFF 2008, was a roaring success. Ok , more wolf-whistle success, I suppose.

Victoria's Secret 2008 FS: Highlights

Last year was SEXY. :p

This year it's SPICE. :)

The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show 2008 made it's world premiere on December 16 in LA.

Three things to note:
1)The Mighty Gisele Bunchen is no longer a Angel in the hallowed-lineup. (and VS lost Tyra Banks the previous year; whatta bummer.)


2) The Spice Girls made their world-debut performance for their upcoming world-tour starting early Dec 2007 as well as publicity for their recently launched much-hyped about new album 'Spice Girls: Greatest Hits'.


3) Heidi Klum is FINALLY back from a hella-long pregnancy break. In my opinion, she's lucky VS still believes in her. (I really don't think her body's that hot anymore. Still a mega-uber Supermodel, yes, Sports Illustrated siren? Not anymore. Gimme Tyra, any time !!!!)


Watch out for her freak-duet with her crooner-husband, Seal. Surely it'll rank up there as one of this year's most talked-about performance since Britney's VMA fiasco. (Read: For all the wrong reasons; almost like seeing a J-LO and Marc Anthony duet all over again)


Anyway, these following pictures are the first scoops of this year's extravaganza FS, which once again remind us why the Victoria's Secret FS is the most famous:).



This Year, Czech Supermodel and Angel Karolina Kurkova , wears the Ultimate Angel wings; a 20-foot high marvel.
(Last year's was Nigerian Supermodel Oluchi Onweagba)

Anway, she's quite a VS star now, because last year, Karolina also got to wear the $10 Million Fantasy Angel Bra. Wonder who's the Fantasy Angel this year???

Victoria's Secret without... STARS

The world-famous lingerie brand earns a whopping US$1 Billion annually in revenue . Period.

Hires 26 supermodels year after year for its famous-as-hell fashion show... Naomi, Karolina, Adriana, Alexandria, Oluchi, Fernanda, Isabelli, Anna-Beatrice, Heidi.... you name it...

In Nov 2005, the brand lost its legend of all legends.. Supermodel Tyra Banks.. marking the end of an 11-yr multi million dollar collaboration and contract ; she who is the first ever cover model on the now- world famous magazine the 'Victoria's Secret Catelog' (why famous? Try getting any magazine with a bus load of supermodels posing in next to nothing on every of its pages) , she who is The first and remains the only black model to be an Angel (contracted Victoria's Secret model; sans 4-5 other Angels, every other supermodel on the run way show is to fill the spaces so-to-speak... very expensive and sought-after spaces of course.) And there's no need to elaborate on her being the first black model on the cover of famed Sports Illustrated... on consecutive issues no less(the only model in the history of the magazine to do so) ... first and only colored Cover girl.. first girl on the GQ magazine covers....blah blah . Woo.

Well, other fans will probably say Tyra left because she wanted to concentrate more on establishing her self as a media celebrity (and darling) and not just remain as a high profile international model that she already is. Well, not far from the truth. But consider this scenario:

If the brand were to go " Tyra, we really want you to stay (which they had openly admitted that they do), we'll pay your another US$5million dollar contract to stay on. "

OK, granted, Miss Bankable probably earns A LOT more now being the producer and host to ANTM and The Tyra Banks Show.
(she's now only the 4th woman in history to be on Times 100 Most Influential People ,twice. She is now virtually room mates with Hilary Clinton, Condoleeeza Rice and Oprah)
She earned over US$30-million in 2006, alone.

But hey, an additional five mil just to be strutting down the runway and doing photoshoots a couple of times (Damn! She wore an US$11 million Fantasy Angel diamond-studded bra; the most expensive couture outfit in fashion history, back in 2004!...) ...is good pocket money to pay the rent, you know ;op


Then this month, the brand lost yet another Icon in its ranks, Supermodel Gisele Bundchen. She who opens every show for Victoria's Secrets. She who has arguably the most perfect body in the fashion world. She who holds the record for being the highest paid model in fashion history... n that brings me to my point.... all she asked... was a 'puny' S$5mil more..... and the brand won't budge.
I mean, hellooooooo.... do they think Gisele will work for Peanuts? They probably need her more than she needs them.

Losing 2 of the biggest stars in the business .. 2 of the most famous bodies in fashion history (Naomi, Kate and Elle pls seat down).... in the matter of 2 years..bad business sense for Victoria'Secrets.

Alright, granted, these two models are very expensive commodities and the money they make can feed entire third world nations for months . And its hardly 'justifiable' to ask for more... (after all Greed is one of the Sins , right?) .

But we, normal folks, who just want pure entertainment.... can't possibly see Karolina Kurkova or Adriana Lima open every show... Alexandra Ambriosio looking all sweet and pretty all the time ..... and then there's Selita Ebanks and Isabel Goulart (god knows why and how these two even became the latest Angels! Where is Ana-Beatrice and Oluchi when you need them?! ).. erm... never mind.

Heidi Klum? If only , that is ... IF only, she ever gets out of maternity leave ... and stops getting preggy year after year....

Still, Tyra , then now Gisele .... are gone.

Last year's 'SEXY ' (Whatever) 'Justin Timberlake' showcase ... was already a little hodge podgey..
This coming 2007 Victoria's Secret fashion show....will be interesting.
